A 2ª entrega dos premios Óscar tivo lugar o día 3 de abril de 1930 en The Ambassador Hotel dos Ánxeles (Estados Unidos). O mestre de cerimonias foi William C. DeMille.
Os filmes elixibles foron os estreados entre o 1 de agosto de 1928 e o 31 de xullo de 1929. Esta edición foi a única na que non houbo candidatos oficiais. Informacións posteriores da Academia das Artes e das Ciencias Cinematográficas deron lugar a unha listaxe de candidatos de facto.
Foi a primeira cerimonia retransmitida por radio, por parte da emisora local KNX dos Ánxeles. É a única edición en que ningún filme gañou máis dun premio.
