Breyten Breytenbach foi un escritor sudafricanu en llingua afrikaans y inglesa. Casó con una moza vietnamina de nacionalidá francesa, razón pola que violó la llei de matrimonios mestos () de 1950 y tuvo que marchar al exiliu a Francia.
Foi un activu lluchador antiapartheid. En París xunióse a la organización Okhela, formada por exiliaos que lluchaben contra'l racismu en Sudáfrica. En 1975 foi deteníu al entrar clandestinamente nel so país y, acusáu d'actividaes terroristes, foi condergáu a nueve años de cárcel. En 1983 foi lliberáu por cuenta de les fuertes presiones internacionales y exilióse a Francia, onde llogró la ciudadanía honoraria. Hasta la so muerte en 2024, yera consideráu'l mayor poeta vivu en llingua afrikaans, pero por razones polítiques decidió arrenunciar a la so llingua, y el so llibru más famosu, (Les verdaderes confesiones d'un terrorista albín, 1985), onde cuenta con una mezcla de crudeza y llirismu les sos esperiencies en prisión, foi escritu n'inglés.
