Cadet Records fue una compañía discográfica estadounidense que comenzó bajo el nombre de Argo Records en 1955 como la subsidiaria de jazz de Chess Records. Argo cambió su nombre en 1965 a Cadet para evitar confusiones con el sello del mismo nombre en el Reino Unido. Cadet dejó de lanzar discos alrededor de 1974, cuando sus artistas fueron transferidos a Chess.
A lo largo de sus casi 20 años de existencia, Cadet lanzó más de 500 álbumes, consolidándose como una fuerza importante en el soul-jazz y el jazz-funk. El apogeo comercial del sello se produjo entre 1965 y 1969, cuando el pianista Ramsey Lewis se convirtió en su artista más exitoso con éxitos como «Wade in the Water» (1966), mientras que productores y arreglistas clave como Esmond Edwards, Richard Evans y Charles Stepney dieron forma a su sonido distintivo.
También existió Cadet Concept Records, destinada al rock y a música más vanguardista, como la de Rotary Connection, y el experimental álbum psicodélico Electric Mud de Muddy Waters. El sello logró tener un éxito en el Top 20 en 1968 con el sencillo «Pictures of Matchstick Men» de la banda británica Status Quo a través de un acuerdo de licencia con Pye Records en Londres. Una banda de San Luis conocida como The Truth (también llamada The Acid Sette) firmó y grabó para este sello bajo la dirección de Abner Spector.
Entre los lanzamientos más destacados de Cadet se encuentran el influyente álbum de jazz con arpa Afro-Harping (1968) de Dorothy Ashby, Tell Mama (1967) de Etta James, y las grabaciones de soul-folk Occasional Rain y What Color Is Love (1972) de Terry Callier. La empresa matriz del sello, Chess Records, fue vendida a GRT Corporation en 1969, lo que llevó al declive gradual de Cadet y a su posterior cierre.
