Arthur David Davis (Harrisburg (Pennsylvania), 5 de diciembre de 1934 – 29 de julio de 2007) fue un contrabajista estadounidense, conocido por sus trabajos con Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner y Max Roach.
Biography Davis comenzó a estudiar piano a los cinco años y lo cambió por la tuba para finalmente elegir el contrabajo en el instituto. Estudió en Juilliard y el Manhattan School of Music pero se graduó en el Hunter College.
En Nueva York empezó a trabajar como músico de sesión, grabó junto a muchos grupos de jazz y pop así como también orquesta sinfónicas como la New York Philharmonic o la Los Angeles Philharmonic. Grabói junto a Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach y John Coltrane ebntro otros músicos de jazz. Art Davis fue profesor en la Orange Coast College.
Davis también es conocido por iniciar un caso legal que condujo a audiciones a ciegas para orquestas.
Davis obtuvo un doctorado en psicología clínica en la Universidad de Nueva York en 1982. En 1986 se mudó al sur de California, donde compaginó la docencia y la práctica de la psicología con actuaciones de jazz.
Davis falleció el 29 de julio de 2007 tras un infarto.
