El Registro de la Memoria del Mundo de la UNESCO incluye el patrimonio documental (textos, materiales audiovisuales, fondos de bibliotecas y archivos ) considerado de importancia mundial. El registro da a conocer dicho patrimonio a expertos y al público en general, promoviendo su preservación, digitalización y difusión.
En 1992, para evitar el peligro creciente de la pérdida de la memoria cultural de proporciones mundiales, UNESCO lanzó su Programa Memoria del Mundo, dedicado al conocimiento y difusión del patrimonio documental de la humanidad.
Las primeras inscripciones se añadieron al registro en 1997. Hasta abril de 2025, esta lista incluye 570 piezas de patrimonio documental.
